New Mexican Food in east Tucson ??
An old friend down here refers to the Eastern reaches of Tucson affectionately as New Mexico, because there is no crosstown freeway. We have a variety of boulevards, but all have lights, and none approach freeway speeds.
So I went to Tucson Medical Center this morning for my initial lab work. I had joked with the medical assistant that since I needed to fast before the lab tests, I could go to breakfast afterwards. She immediate recommended Baja Cafe — the best Eggs Benedict in town.
It was a couple of miles from TMC, and when we got there, we found it in a strip shopping center. It didn't look like much, but inside a loud and contented crowd; the menu was amazing: http://www.bajacafetucson.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Baja-Cafe-Broadway-Ina-Menu-2018-April.pdfEnchiladas & Eggs
And yup, they have a bunch of New Mexican items, including my eggs & cheese enchiladas, made with blue corn tortillas! Never had enchiladas for breakfast before, but it won't be the last time.
Turns out they have 3 locations, cook their own brisket, and are only open for breakfast & lunch. Fortunately, there is one closer. It's on our keeper list, although realistically, I think every place we've been to is on our keeper list.
The waitress reeled off about 5 of her favorite meals there. They all sounded great!
I may have to start a food blog...
